Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has been charged with ‘inappropriate and/or violent’ behavior following an incident where he appeared to knock his mobile phone away from a fan.

The incident followed United’s 0-1 defeat at Goodison Park last April.

Footage shared on social media shows the 37-year-old seemingly smashing the phone out of a young fan’s hand as he leaves the field and walks towards the tunnel.

Ronaldo was warned by police in connection with the incident in August and later issued an apology to 14-year-old Jacob Harding on his Instagram account, acknowledging his feelings following a result. Being so bad made him better.

United have vowed to support their player in response to the accusation.

A statement from the FA read: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo has been charged with breaching FA Rule E3 for an incident that took place following Manchester United’s Premier League match against Everton FC on Saturday 9 April 2022.

‘It was alleged that the striker’s behavior after the final whistle was indecent and/or violent.’

United commented: ‘We take note of the FA announcement regarding Cristiano Ronaldo. We will assist the player in return for the fee. ‘

After the game, the teenager’s mother, Sarah Kelly, revealed her son was bruised from the violent action that Ronaldo slapped the device out of his hand.

She said: ‘At the time of full-time United players started walking. We were right by the tunnel – my son was there, videotaping it all. Ronaldo then just walked over, with a terrible temper, and smashed the phone in his hand.

‘You can see the bruise he was exposed to. I was crying, I was shaking, Jacob was in complete shock – he has autism and he also has dyspnea, so he didn’t really understand what was going on until he got home.

‘He was really upset and that made it impossible for him to play the match again. We had an absolutely brilliant day until those last seconds. ‘

Ronaldo is currently on international duty with Portugal, which will play in the Nations League against the Czech Republic on Saturday, followed by a match against Spain on Tuesday.
