PS Plus Premium is the worst factor PlayStation has ever finished

PS Plus Premium wasn’t very spectacular (picture: Sony)

A reader is saddened by the state of PS Plus Premium and needs they by no means signed up for it and its assortment of retro PS1, PS2 and PSP video games.

As a long-time PlayStation fan, I believe Sony has obtained plenty of pointless criticism proper now because the first console. Positive, the dearth of communication is irritating, however once they say one thing new or provide you with a brand new sport, it is virtually at all times optimistic. There could have been little details about God Of War Ragnarök is pre-release but the game itself is great, so it’s fine for me.

I’d love to know what other games they’re planning now but I’m sure we’ll find out very soon, possibly a few more at The Game Awards next month. None of this matters. Whether we know it ahead of time or not, it’s not going to accelerate the release of anything, and Sony has released more and better games from Microsoft this year.

Instead, the only thing that disappoints me as a PlayStation fan is PS Plus Premium, which is so awful that I keep thinking I might have missed something. Either that or the world’s least funny troll.

I don’t know how many people actually use PS Plus Premium, as it’s the most expensive of the three PS Plus tiers, and it seems like Sony has seen 2 million people leave it since they refreshed them all. So, I guess not that much? If there were more people who understood how terrible this was, then I think we would be seeing a lot more anger right now.

Just to make sure everyone agrees, PS Plus Essential is basically just the old PS Plus with online multiplayer and a few free games. PS Plus Extra is similar to Game Pass in that it adds a bunch of PlayStation 4 and 5 games. Neither is day one like Game Pass, but it’s actually a pretty good deal and I’d recommend it. The only thing that is the problem and I won’t renew is Premium.

Premium has PlayStation 1, 2, 3 and PSP games alongside everything on the lower tiers. I don’t know what happened to the PS Vita but as far as I can tell there are no games for it. I say this as far as I can tell because its interface is absolutely awful and goes to odd lengths to prevent you from finding the games you’re looking for or grouping them in any logical order (by format, for example). .

I was hoping to link to a list of all the retro games on Premium but this is the closest and again doesn’t break anything down into formats. Instead, I’m going to ask you to speculate on how many PS1 games should be in it, knowing that it’s a few months after its launch and that PS1 is one of the most important and beloved consoles of all time.

Do you have a number in mind? Okay, the answer is… 14. Yes, that’s right fourteen. Including non-classic games like IQ Intelligent Qube, Toy Story 2 and two Worms games. Only six of them are first-party games, and the only ones that come close to a classic third-party game are the Resident Evil Director’s Cut (but not the original) and Tekken 2 (but not the first).

I’m sure no one cares that much about the PSP but there are only seven games in it. Just seven! And again, none of the celebrities. The PlayStation 2 is slightly better with around 25 games if you want to use that word, but as you guessed it, not nearly as good.

On PS1, there is no trace of real Sony games like Gran Turismo or WipEout, or classics like Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, Silent Hill, other Resident Evils, or anything else everyone knows or cares about.

Touching. I’d really like to hear from anyone who thinks otherwise. Specifically, as I said, the service has been running for months and Sony has never made any models for updates, so we don’t know if there will be two new updates per month.

And remember, PS Plus Premium is more expensive than Extra, so you’re paying for almost nothing. If Premium was meant to be more than that, there’s no indication of it, but either way it’s the biggest waste of money and weirdest failure PlayStation has ever been involved with.
