Design and Development
The OM 50mm Nemesis is a remarkable firearm that has been meticulously crafted by James Owens, a retired United States Marine Corps officer, and Chris Movigliatti from Switzerland. This rifle, which was first produced within three months of its design, has since been produced by Swiss AMSD company since 2003. The name “OM 50” is derived from the designers’ initials, with “50” representing the caliber, and “Nemesis” being the Greek goddess of revenge, symbolizing the weapon’s precision and effectiveness.
Functionality and Versatility
Primarily designed for military and law enforcement precision anti-material rifle shooting, the OM 50 Nemesis can also be adapted for urban warfare and long-range targeting with the help of interchangeable accessories. Its modular design allows for the replacement of different length barrels, ranging from 381mm to 838mm. The floating barrel design and the use of aviation-grade aluminum contribute to its durability and precision. The sight is securely mounted on the receiver with a set of cross screws, and the trigger is adjustable with a two-stage fire mechanism.
Three Versions
The OM 50 Nemesis comes in three versions: MKI, MKII, and MKIII. The MKI is a single-shot version without a magazine, while the MKII is equipped with a magazine holding 5 rounds. The MKIII, the most common version, adds additional railings to the MKII. The rifle is known for its exceptional accuracy, with a 0.5 MOA (Minute of Angle) at 300 meters and less than 1 MOA at 1000 meters when using high-precision ammunition. There have been records of U.S. Marine Corps snipers achieving less than 0.25 MOA at 1000 yards with this rifle.
Production and Evolution
Since December 31, 2010, AMSD has ceased production of the OM 50 rifle, transferring it to Swiss Arms AG. Swiss Arms AG has made several improvements to the human-machine interface and renamed it SAN 511. The SAN 511 comes in two versions: SAN 511-1 and SAN 511-2, with the SAN 511-2 featuring additional railings similar to the OM 50 MKIII.
